Northern Istria
Buzet - Grožnjan - Karojba - Motovun - Oprtalj - Tinjan - VižinadaIn northern Istria are situated fairytale-like places – scattered on the hills, with numerous old buildings that reflect mythology and curiosities. These hills offer a beautiful endless view of the many towns surrounded by nature in the valley and of the Mirna River valley.
North Istria exudes tradition, a rich cultural heritage and cuisine through the numerous events held throughout the year – "Festivities of: wine, honey, chestnuts, pasta, asparagus, truffles, Istrian prosciutto, mushrooms, etc." Foreigners and visitors from distant parts of Croatia, but also residents from other parts of Istria frequently visit on the weekends. They drive bicycles on the former old railway – Parenzana, which is now a trail for bicycles and hikers. They kayak in the valley of the Mirna River. Or they take their children for a walk through the ancient towns on hills such as Grožnjan, Vizinada or Oprtalj, and they admire the view stretching from them. We would like to point out Motovun, a small town on a hill overlooking the river Mirna and the Motovun forest, which is the habitat of the best truffles in the world. The town in which the traditional "Motovun Film Festival" is held. And, we must not forget to mention Hum, the smallest town in the world. And Roc located in the immediate vicinity in which you can find the "Glagolitic Alley", and if you're interested, you can learn more about the Slavic Glagolitic script.
